Meet Our Team

Marissa Meshulam, founder & dietitian

My name is Marissa Meshulam and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and the founder of MPM Nutrition.

Born and raised in Chicago, IL, I moved to NYC to finish school to become an RD. I have a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters of Science from New York University.

While completing my dietetic internship at the Bronx VA Hospital, I saw firsthand how a lack of proper nutrition can lead to chronic disease. I then went on to work at Mount Sinai as an inpatient dietitian, where I worked with thousands of patients who were overwhelmed by nutrition. During my time inside hospitals, my interest in using food as prevention grew. My true passion lies in incorporating healthy foods earlier on as a means of avoiding certain diseases & helping guide individuals towards what works best for their body.

MY FOOD PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE & INCLUSIVE.

Instead of categorizing foods as “good” or “bad” & spending time talking about foods we shouldn’t eat, I work with my clients to help them eat more real, whole foods that fit their preferences.

I am a firm believer that good nutrition is the key we are all given to unlock the door to our healthiest life.

I take an individualized approach to nutrition counseling, serving my clients by understanding their whole history to then guide them to their desired future. Trained in MB-EAT (mindfulness based eating awareness training), I encourage a mindful approach to food. I help people unlearn food rules engrained from years of dieting and instead relearn how to listen to their bodies. I believe the true key to wellness lies somewhere between the Whole Food’s produce aisle and the line for Ample Hill’s ice cream. After all, life is complicated, but food does not have to be.

Avia Goldstein, associate dietitian

My name is Avia Goldstein, I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and an associate RD at MPM Nutrition.

My interest in nutrition started early on when my Grandpa taught me about organic food and antioxidants long before they were trendy. Learning about food and its impact on how we feel fueled my passion into my career. I completed my Bachelors of Science at Rutgers University, dietetic internship and Masters in Nutrition Science at Lehman College in NYC.

I have served thousands of patients through my clinical work at Mount Sinai as an inpatient dietitian and individual nutrition counseling in corporate wellness.

My approach to wellness is all encompassing.

I encourage and guide my clients to zoom out and look at the big picture to what collectively makes you feel your best. Food is always part of the conversation, but so is movement, mindful eating, sleep hygiene and stress reduction.

When I’m not seeing clients, you can find me exploring new restaurants in NYC, getting my endorphin fix with various workouts and on the hunt for another hike in the beautiful Catskills!

Avia is a real pro. She digs deep into your lifestyle and dietary wins and losses and creates a custom approach giving you the best chance of success and lifetime improvement. Over the years, I’ve read fad diet books and all the messaging ends up drifting away. Avia’s encouragement and approach resonated with me and I hear her speaking when I make food choices. If you are hoping to improve your health and prepare for a great, long life, Avia is a great partner for your journey.

I’ve been working with Avia for the past few months and she has completely changed my relationship with food. She helped me realize that food isn’t my enemy. I have more energy throughout the day since working on my sleep habits and taking a supplement she recommended, together this has made all the difference. I’m very grateful to work with a provider who listens and really cares about my health.

Working with Avia has been like a breath of fresh air. I came to her wanting to lose weight, but she helped me see so many things about my relationship with food that I didn’t even realize were there. I’m still slowly losing weight, but now I see how much more there is to it. Avia made me feel comfortable and heard about my food/body insecurities, and I’m feeling better than I have in a long time. Avia has a calming presence and is well-spoken, and I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Before working with Avia, I would overeat to the point of being uncomfortable and would stay away from carbs as I thought they would make me gain weight. Once I started working with Avia, she encouraged me to eat carbs (along with other nutrients in my meals) and made me much more aware of honoring my hunger/fullness cues. She taught me to give myself permission to eat nutritious and “fun” foods and helped me find a balance to the point where I don’t find myself uncomfortably full after every meal. She was such a positive, encouraging and supportive presence throughout the process and always left me feeling motivated to continue listening to my body!
